Visiting a Nobleman

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting a young beauty paying a visit to a nobleman. The daimyo sits on a cushion at right holding a red lacquer sake cup, a fan in his other hand. He looks solemnly at the beauty, who kneels respectfully at far left, her long hair flowing over her back. She looks down shyly, but the matron kneeling beside her looks up with an interested expression. Several samurai are gathered around the room, frowning unhappily or angrily at the visitor as an attendant carries in a tray of sweets at left. The verandah of the palace overlooks a lovely view of the mountains framed by blossoming cherry trees. A handsome design with fine detail in the expressive figures and the elegant sitting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. A couple tears at edges, repaired with backing. Slight soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
