Kabuki Stars at a Blessing Waterfall, 1883

Comments - Fantastic Kunichika kabuki scene depicting a tattooed rogue and a beauty paying a visit to a waterfall to do penance, sitting or standing under the rushing water in an austere Buddhist purification ritual. The man at right has a full body tattoo depicting a diving girl stealing the sacred jewel from the Dragon King, a famous legend. The beauty crouches beside him, her kimono floating in the water around her. The beautifully shaded waterfall provides a striking setting for the pair. An intriguing scene with fantastic detail in the tattoos. A great image for a collector interested in tattoo subjects.

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/4"
