Actor in a Mirror

Series; Mirror of True Likenesses of Actors Backstage

Actor in a Mirror - Terrific image of a kabuki actor as shown in a mirror on a red lacquer stand in the actor's dressing room backstage. A small dish of makeup with a brush across it sits before the portrait, and a makeup brush with embossed bristles hangs at left. The actor himself is shown relaxing in a blue and white print cotton kimono, a pipe in hand, with his hair tied back and teeth blackened for a female role. A fantastic portrait from this interesting series.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, wormhole, repaired. Slight soiling, a few small spots and creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
