Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Kinryuzan Temple, Asakusa - Beautiful winter view of Kinryuzan Temple as seen through the entrance gate, which frames the scene along with the large paper lantern hanging overhead, creating a sense of depth. Snow falls over the plaza where visitors make their way toward the buildings, the pine trees at left and in the distance heavily laden with snow. A lovely evocative scene, beautifully colored and shaded, with embossing in the snowflakes and mica across the top of the sky and the stone step at the bottom. One of Hiroshige's most iconic images from this series.
