Prince Genji and Companions in a Garden, 1853 - Handsome scene of Prince Genji and his companions enjoying a garden as evening falls. He relaxes on the step in the center, grinning happily as a young girl pours water into a lacquer basin for him to wash his hand in, a towel hanging on a rack nearby. At right, a beauty in a red kimono patterned with folding fans gestures at the oversize morning glories on a trellis, with hydrangea blossoms below. At left, a young woman carries out a tobacco set as a small dog plays at the hem of her robe. Wonderful detail in the elegant palace setting and household furnishings. Includes embossing in the white kimono trim and a burnished pattern in the blue-green kimono of the kneeling woman at left. A lovely design.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 1/2"
