The Soga Brothers by Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882)

Original Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Soga Brothers

Comments - Great kabuki scene from the famous tale of the Soga Brothers, who avenged their father's death. In the center, Soga Goro, the younger of the two, frowns as he listens to a messenger at left. He wears a gold kimono with his trademark butterflies tucked into brown pants over a suit of armor. At right, Soga Juro stares at the visitor with an angry, tight-lipped frown. His blue and white outer kimono features plovers (chidori). Nice large figures set off by a deep red background, with fine line work in the hair and a burnished pattern on the black court caps.

Artist - Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few creases and small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
