Fireworks in the Bustling Evening Cool: Sawamura Tossho

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tossho as a commoner enjoying the evening cool along the bustling waterfront, fireworks exploding overhead in a great ball of sparks. He takes a toothpick from his mouth as he looks up, an insect cage in his other hand. He wears a blue kimono patterned with chidori (plovers), and his thinning hair is pulled back into a slender topknot. Pleasure boats can be seen on the river behind him, with a bridge and rooftops in dark silhouette in the distance. A terrific design.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown
