Series; The Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu)

The Tea Ceremony - These lovely woodblocks are from a series of prints by Toshikata illustrating the Japanese tea ceremony. Beautifully drawn and delicately colored, these tranquil designs capture the harmony and beauty associated with this classic ritual. Prints from this terrific series rarely come on the market. A wonderful choice for display, or for any collector interested in this timeless Japanese ceremony.

Serving Food - The three guests enjoy themselves during a meal served by the host. She offers each visitor a black lacquer tray holding a bowl of food. The seated guest in the center extends her hand as her companion at left passes a kettle. The sliding screen in the room opens onto a lovely view of a heron or egret standing in tall grasses, perhaps a painted screen in the next room.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Vertical centerfold. Small number on title cartouche. Some prints have slight soiling or a stain at the edge. Please see photos for details. Generally in good condition overall.
