The Shank's Mare Tokaido - Jippensha Ikku's famous novel "Tokaidochu Hizakurige" or "Shank's Mare Tokaido" chronicled the comic adventures of his two heroes, Yajirobei and Kitahachi, as they made their way from Tokyo to Kyoto and then Osaka along the famed Tokaido road in the early 19th century. The two commoners Yaji and Kita experienced a series of comic misadventures as they traveled from one station to the next. These beautiful oban prints are from a fantastic original release of Tamenobu's "Shank's Mare Tokaido" in 1918.

Condition - With excellent color and detail, very finely printed. Paper remnants on reverse at edges from previous folio mounting, not visible from front. Slight toning and spotting, slight rippling. Good overall.
