Samurai Visiting an Invalid, 1864

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a samurai visiting an invalid in his home. The sick man steadies himself against a wooden post as he clutches a red cloth to his chest, a haggard expression on his face. He wears a typical invalid's sash around his forehead and a few loose hairs frame his face, giving him a disheveled appearance. The warrior looks up at him with a frown, a sword wrapped in cloth in his hand. At left, a beauty leans forward with concern, holding her hand out in a stopping gesture. Softly shaded curtains hang in the doorway, and an ancestor altar can be seen at upper right. An interesting subject with a nicely detailed interior setting.
