Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji Military Ceremony, 1889

Comments - Interesting scene of a ceremony taking place before a large audience of generals and officers in uniform. Wearing full dress uniform and a hat trimmed with feathers, the Meiji Emperor sits on a plush chair on a platform in the center. Just below, two seated men hold box-like objects covered with cloth, while a third holds a sword. The Meiji Empress and court ladies sit at left wearing the latest European fashions. Nice detail in the elegant room and furnishings, and the faces of the attendants. The first time we've seen this historic subject.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse at sides from previous attachment. Slight toning and creasing, a few small stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
