Ceremony Unveiling the Icon at Benzaiten, Enoshima, circa 1850

Comments - Lovely scene of beauties arriving for a ceremony unveiling an icon at the shrine to Benzaiten on Enoshima. The women pause on the shore, smiling and chatting as they prepare to walk along the spit of land that leads to the island. The woman at right smiles happily as she fastens the narrow sash around her waist, while her companion at left gesture with her hand. White-capped waves lap at the beach, and other visitors make their way to and from the island topped with pine trees. Palanquins can be seen on either side of the women. An attractive and rarely seen Hiroshige beauty triptych, also in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 28 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight toning and soiling, a few crease and spots, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
