Bando Shuka I as Oseki and Nakamura Utaemon IV as Gotobei, 1849

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring Nakamura Utaemon IV as the military strategist Gotobei and Bando Shuka I as his wife, Oseki. Gotobei sits on a black lacquer stool wearing a vest over a suit of armor and a tall black court cap, agitatedly waving a tasseled command baton above his head. The beauty kneels at left, holding a gun behind her back, grinning as she watches her husband, who stares back at her with a worried frown. Nice expressive figures with fine detail in the armor.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 19 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two attached panels, backed with paper. Small hole, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, and small spots, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
