Original Nisaburo Ito (1910 - 1988) Japanese Woodblock Print
Washing Cloth

Nisaburo Ito - Born in Kyoto in 1910, shin-hanga artist Nisaburo Ito created many woodblock prints of flowers, landscapes, and noted shrines and temples around his hometown. Some of his designs reflect his study of nihonga or traditional Japanese painting, while others take on a more modern expression. His floral and nature subjects are beautifully rendered with wonderful color and attention to detail. His attractive prints are a lovely choice to collect or display.

Landscapes by Nisaburo Ito - Lovely design from a series of landscapes and views of famous sites by Nisaburo Ito. This handsome shin-hanga group was published by Matsuku (or Matsukyu), a company established by artist Tomikichiro Tokuriki after WWII to print his own and other artists' woodblocks. Each design features Nisaburo Ito's signature in ink with a red artist's seal on the reverse (see example below). The Matsuku publisher's seal appears in the lower left margin. These signed, rarely seen designs are a great choice for collector interested in modern Japanese woodblocks.
