Nobleman and Sad Samurai, 1857

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring a samurai crouching in the center, looking down with a sad expression. He wears a voluminous blue robe with a large white crest over an intricately patterned kimono, a fan in one hand. The nobleman at left raises a sleeve of his violet tunic behind his head as he looks up at the circular inset in the center, which features a scowling man. At right, a frightening young beauty kneels at the side of a white-haired matron, a worried expression on her face. Beautifully detailed with embossing on the white kimono and white kimono collar.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29" + margins as shown
