Confrontation on a Verandah, 1843 - 1846 - Unusual triptych depicting a confrontation taking place on a verandah. In the center, a young samurai scowls angrily as he raises his kimono sleeve. At right, a daimyo in formal court attire glares at the beauty at left, who looks down shyly. Blossoming cherry trees frame a view of a garden with a lake under the evening sky. We've never before seen this subject.
