Spring Snow

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Lovely Kiyonaga diptych of young beauties in an elegant garden in the early springtime. Plum trees have blossomed and an unexpected spring snow covers the ground. The woman at left plucks a few pink flowers as her companion taps on an icicle with a slender pipe. A fantastic piece with lovely soft color and excellent detail. This large format diptych would make an attractive display.

Image Size - 15 3/8" x 20 1/2" + margins as shown
