Bando Mitsugoro VI as Shindozaemon's Daughter Yushide, 1862

Comments - Terrific okubi-e or large head kabuki portrait of the actor Bando Mitsugoro VI (the posthumous name of Bando Shuka I) as Yushide, the daughter of Shindozaemon. She looks over her shoulder with a sly smile, holding her hand up before her. She wears a patterned outer kimono over layers of red under robe with white collars. Her hair is pulled back into a sleek knot, unusually adorned with an arrow as a hairpin. Beautifully printed with extensive burnishing in the finely detailed hair, delicate embossing and soft shading in the white kimono collar. A really striking design set off by the jewel-tone blue background.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 8 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight soiling and creasing, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
