Series; Tales of the Floating World on Eastern Brocade

Kumakichi Confronting His Sister, the Geisha Otake, 1867 - Dramatic scene of Kumakichi murdering his younger sister, the geisha Otake. Grabbing her by the throat with one hand, he draws back his sword with the other, glaring at her furiously. The hapless beauty stumbles backwards as her brother forces her to the ground, an arm and leg flailing as she struggles to free his grip. The attack takes place at the foot of a large stone sculpture of a Buddhist deity sitting atop a lotus petal base, with autumn grasses on either side. Rooftops can be seen in the distance in dark silhouette against the night sky. A memorable image from this rarely seen early Yoshitoshi series.
