Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Spring Picnic, 1852

Comments - Handsome scene of a young couple enjoying a spring picnic at a temple. The young man sits next to a kotatsu, a wooden frame over a brazier with a quilt over it to keep the heat in, while the beauty flirtatiously pours him a cup of sake. A meal is laid out in blue and white dishes nearby. At right, a beauty and a young girl pause on the stone steps beneath a torii gate as the samurai beside them reaches for his sword. A blossoming cherry tree grows on the grassy slop at left. Nicely detailed with expressive figures, in an unusual horizontal kabuki format.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 14 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few small wormholes, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
