Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Courtier Holding a Child, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a Chinese courtier holding a small child to his chest, grimacing with rage as the beauty kneeling before him gestures with her arm. He wears an elegant black robe patterned with dragons and trimmed with layers of ruffles over full pants, and an ornate cap. The room opens onto a view of the ocean, with sails dotting the horizon. Nicely detailed. An unusual horizontal format not commonly seen for kabuki subjects.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 8 3/4" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few small wormholes, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
