by Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) and Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes
Yoshiwara: Fuji on the Left at Nawate: Priest Saigyo Viewing Mt. Fuji - Handsome image from Hiroshige and Toyokuni III's collaborative Tokaido series. In the foreground, Toyokuni III depicts Priest Saigyo sitting with his knees to his chest, his hands clasped as he looks up to contemplate the view of Mt. Fuji in Hiroshige's landscape above. He wears a gray robe shadowed in black, his woven and walking staff beside him. Above, a large pine tree with colorful vines climbing up it frames a view rice fields stretching across the valley, the snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji rising in the distance. A nice design with a beautiful Hiroshige landscape, nicely detailed and shaded. A variant edition with a colored background.
