Yoshida on the Tokaido Road

Series; Thirty-six Views of Fuji
A Fine Tokyo Reprint Collection

Yoshida on the Tokaido Road - Terrific illustration of the famous teahouse along the Tokaido road, the sign in the foreground proudly proclaiming "Fuji Viewing Teahouse." Visitors relax on the benches, enjoying a view of snow-capped Mt. Fuji in the distance, or smoking a pipe. At lower left, an old man repairs a straw sandal, beating it with a wooden mallet. A handsome design, nicely composed.

Takamizawa Thirty-six Fuji Reprints - Established in Tokyo in 1911, the venerable Takamizawa Publisher was known as one of the finest reprint publishers of the 20th century, and produced some of the highest quality ukiyo-e woodblock reprints of all time. This lovely group of reprints of Hokusai's outstanding "The Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji" series features attractive color and beautiful bokashi shading, a deluxe printing technique used to create gradations of color.

All prints bear the "Takamizawa" seal on the reverse attesting to the Takamizawa publication of these prints.
