Fishing with a Scoop Net, circa 1800 - 1801

Comments - Charming original Utamaro triptych depicting beauties on a boat with a fisherman using a scoop net to catch fish. At right, the fisherman tugs on a rope to lift the net, a fish wriggling on the water below, as a young beauty claps her hands excitedly as she watches. On the pleasure boat at left, other women watch with interest. A young man in a boldly checked kimono sits in the front of the boat at left, a sake cup in one hand and a sake kettle in the other. A crescent moon is visible in the night sky at upper left. An attractive subject with wonderful detail and bokashi shading in the background. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has this image in its collection.
