Series; Collection of Scenic Views of Japan II, Kansai Edition

Chion Temple, Kyoto, 1933 - Beautiful, evocative view of the Sanmon Gate at Chion Temple in Kyoto. Stone steps lead to the interior, where patches of sunlight fall across the floor between the tall wooden pillars. At center left, a woman and child can be seen on the opposite side against a lovely view of trees silhouetted against a blue sky dotted with drifting white clouds. The textures of the stone and wood are beautifully captured, with soft bokashi shading in the shadows. A wonderful design with a handsome composition. A fine lifetime edition with 6 mm Watanabe Publisher's seal within the image at lower left.
