Hanashirusato, Chapter 11: Nagoya Sanza Motoharu, 1863 - Dramatic image of the samurai Nagoya Sanza Motoharu fighting his sworn enemy, Fuwa Banzaemon. Entrusted by his lord with the care of a valuable scroll, Sanza was banished from his clan after the scroll was stolen by the evil Banzaemon. Sanza is finally able to avenge himself when he encounters Banzaemon in the Yoshiwara one night. He stands triumphant over the slain body of his enemy, still gripping his sword, the sleeves of his blue kimono tied back with rope. A severed head rests on the ground next to the bloody corpse, a lost shoe and hat attesting to the violent struggle. Misty clouds drift across a full moon above the rooftops silhouetted in black. An eerie and unusual depiction of this classic tale.
