Series; The Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu)

The Tea Ceremony - These lovely woodblocks are from a series of prints by Toshikata illustrating the Japanese tea ceremony. Beautifully drawn and delicately colored, these tranquil designs capture the harmony and beauty associated with this classic ritual. Prints from this terrific series rarely come on the market. A wonderful choice for display, or for any collector interested in this timeless Japanese ceremony.

Unpacking Implements - Here, women unpack and clean the implements that will be needed during the tea ceremony. At left, a beauty kneeling next to an open crate carefully wipes black lacquer bowls with lids for the meal. Her companion prepares to remove the lid from another wooden box. At right, a traditional New Year's decoration features large stacked mochi (rice cakes) on a bed of greenery, topped with a lobster and a bitter orange.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Vertical centerfold. Small notation on title cartouche. Some prints have slight soiling or a stain at the edge. Please see photos for details. Generally in good condition overall.
