Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji Emperor and Empress, 1878

Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress leaving the palace. The Imperial carriage awaits them at left, elegantly decorated with the chrysanthemum symbol of the Meiji throne. Soldiers stand at attention in the courtyard under blossoming cherry trees, and identically dressed ladies-in-waiting bow respectfully on the verandah at right. Nicely detailed with delicate embossing in the white kimono fabric.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A couple small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
