A Fuji Arts special offer auction

Yokkaichi: Mirage at Nako Bay - Charming design from the collaborative Hiroshige and Toyokuni III Tokaido Road series, referred to as "The Tokaido by Two Brushes." Hiroshige's tranquil landscape in the background shows a wonderful mirage of a castle with flying banners in soft gray floating in a cloud above Nako Bay. Fishing nets are stretched out to dry along the shore and boats are anchored near the water's edge. In the foreground, Toyokuni III depicts a scene from the kabuki play "Gunpo Fujimi Saigyo" of a beauty unrolling a scroll, smiling happily at her companion as she looks up. He scowls down at her angrily, holding a folding fan. He wears a gray coat patterned with pine trees over a matching kimono, and a floppy cloth hat. The beauty's robe is shaded from deep blue to a lighter shade, with a border of delicate blossoms atop slender leafy stems. The scroll features a portrait of a man. A handsome design, beautifully detailed with fine bokashi shading and embossed in the white kimono trim and ribs of the fan. A variant edition with a colored background.
