Samurai Fighting Off Guards

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a samurai fighting off guards. He stands in the center gripping a pole arm in one hand while he pushes away the handle of another as a guard tumbles backwards at right. He sneer as he looks angrily as the nobleman at left, who waves a blossoming cherry branch at him. At right, a courtesan watches with interest as she pulls up the collar of her red dragon patterned outer kimono. Nice large expressive figures set off by a deep blue background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 28 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small thinning spot, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, a couple small rubbed spots, small stain. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
