Five Street Knights

Comments - Dramatic kabuki design depicting five otokodate or street knights. The man at left wields an enormous knife while the fellow beside him cleans the blade of his sword with a sandal. They wear an array of colorful kimono with fantastic designs, including an eagle, lion, snake, dragon, and ground spider, their long sleeves tied out of the way with rope. From left, the actors are Onoe Kikugoro as Owashi no Oto, Ichikawa Sadanji as Shishio no Yone, Nakamura Shikan as Daijya no Koma, Ichikawa Danjuro as Hiryu no Masu, and Sawamura Tossho as Tsuchigumo no Gei. An intriguing scene large colorful figures set against a deep blue background, bordered with a simulated red lacquer frame.
