From an untitled series of actors backstage

Untitled series of actors backstage - Great portrait from an untitled series by Toyokuni III depicting kabuki actors in the dressing room. Each print shows an actor applying makeup, putting on a wig, or dressing, sometimes with the help of an assistant who is shown just at the edge of the image. The figures are set against a board wall, with mirrors, makeup stands, or other furnishings complementing the scene. Many feature beautiful burnished detail. A rare and interesting look at kabuki actors backstage before a performance. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has several of these subjects in its collection. A nice choice for a kabuki enthusiast.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Slight toning and soiling, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
