A Banquet at the Koshida Palace, 1886 - Wonderfully detailed Yoshitoshi diptych of a banquet at Koshida Palace. The beauty at right relaxes on a bed, leaning on an ornate lacquer armrest as she watches the festivities on the other side of a folding screen. Four women kneel on the floor, two of them holding kettles of warm sake. The interior is elegantly appointed with fine furnishings, including a gold and red lacquer tobacco set and matching small chest. The beauty's kimono is edged with a black border featuring a subtle burnished pattern, and her white robe is delicately embossed. Nicely detailed with additional burnishing the black frame of the screen at left, and fine cloth embossing on the folding screen at right. A handsome Yoshitoshi scene from upper-class life.
