Imported Cigarettes from Iga Province

Series; Celebrated Products of Mountains and Seas, 1852

Imported Cigarettes from Iga Province - Intriguing image from a series pairing beautiful women with famous products from Japan. The inset above shows men unloading large parcels of imported cigarettes at Iga. The beauty is bundled up against the cold weather with a blue scarf covering her head, tied with a white cloth around the neck. She looks over her shoulder with a slight smile; notice how her eyelashes are shown facing the eye rather than the lids. The desire associated with this subject is wanting to hurry or leave quickly. A charming design with delicate embossing on the blue scarf. A handsome print with a nice composition.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Wormhole, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few wrinkles and creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
