Series; Flowers of Edo in Old times

First Attendance of Lords at the Castle at New Year's - Lively scene of daimyos' processions outside Chiyoda Palace as they arrive for the first attendance of the New Year. The embankment is crowded with retainers walking in groups, led by porters shouldering heavy trunks. An enclosed palanquin can be seen in the midst of the crowd at center, and another group men cross the arched wooden bridge over the moat. The stone walls of the castle stretch across the background, with treetops visible inside the complex. A fascinating scene with wonderful detail, including embossing in the white robes and burnishing in the black trunks.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 28 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Horizontal crease across lower part of each panel. Slight soiling, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
