A Woman's Love for Children, 1888

Comments - Charming scene of a beauty surrounded by young children, smiling affectionately as she holds out a kimono for a baby crawling away from her. The other four children are dressed in elegant robes trimmed with ruffled collars, one wearing a knit cap. Toys are scattered across the floor, including a magic fox mask, a fish pull toy on wheels, drums, a lion dance costume, and a miniature emperor's palanquin topped with a golden phoenix at upper right. Nicely detailed with burnishing in the black collars and robe, and fine lien work in the beauty's hair. We've never before come across this Chikanobu triptych.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 27 5/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight toning and soiling, a few small stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
