Soshu, 1940 by Hiroshi Yoshida (1876 - 1950)

Original Hiroshi Yoshida (1876 - 1950) Japanese Woodblock Print
Soshu, 1940

Comments - Lovely view of Soshu (Suzhou) in China, which is noted for its beautiful canals and gardens. A large stone bridge arches gracefully over the water, with boats moving up and down the canal and anchored along the shore. Pedestrians stand chatting on the bank, and a willow tree rises above the tile-roofed houses lining the scene. White clouds drift across the sky softly shaded with mauve and blue. A handsome, evocative design with beautiful color. Pencil signed in bottom margin, with jizuri seal, meaning "self-printed," in the top left margin indicating that the artist approved the print himself as being of the highest quality.
