A Fuji Arts special offer auction

Kawasaki: Ferry on the Rokugo River; Straw Craft - Attractive scene from the collaborative Hiroshige and Toyokuni III Tokaido Road series, referred to as "The Tokaido by Two Brushes." The foreground design by Toyokuni III shows a mother seated at a low desk decorating boxes with geometric patterns in colored straw, a specialty of the region. She smiles as she looks down at her young boy, who holds a box in each hand. She wears a blue kimono with a large tied-dyed floral design, the sleeves tied back with a red sash and her hair protectively wrapped with a white towel printed with butterflies. Above, a classic Hiroshige landscape shows a ferry crossing on the Rokugo River, with two smaller boats carrying passengers back and forth while a larger sailboat approaches. Clouds streak across the sky with gray mountains along the horizon and the white peak of Mt. Fuji rising in the distance. A variant edition with a colored background.
