Series; A Parody of the Twelve Months, 1859

A Parody of the Twelve Months - Terrific design from a rarely seen Toyokuni III series pairing kabuki portraits with small inset scenes related to the twelve months of the year. Each print features a head and shoulders portrait of an actor within a Toshidama seal, which was used by the Utagawa school of woodblock print artists, to which Toyokuni III belonged. The insets by Kunihisa II show various activities or festivals that take place during the featured months. A great series with expressive figures and wonderful detail, in an interesting format with bold graphic appeal. We've never before. offered subjects from this series.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple small wormholes, repaired. Slight toning, a couple small marks, small stain. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
