Fine printing from the respected Tokyo publisher Oedo Mokuhansha - These classic designs were produced by the well known Tokyo publisher Oedo Mokuhansha amidst a resurgence of interest in ukiyo-e. Like many of these traditional businesses, the woodblock print craft was passed down through generations, and the Oedo Mokuhansha company was formed by descendents of an Edo era publisher. These are nice prints of the highest quality standards and an excellent choice if you are looking for fine old woodblock reprints.

Poem by Ariwara no Narihira Ason - Terrific autumn scene of travelers making their way over an arched bridge above a swiftly flowing river. Colorful red maple leaves float along the current, creating a beautiful contrast to the blue water. The poem by the ninth-century poet and courtier Ariwara no Narihira Ason reads:

I have never heard
That, e'en when the gods held sway
In the ancient days,
E'er was water bound with red
Such as here in Tatta's stream.

A lovely design with rich color. An attractive choice for display. The publisher has applied a light tan wash to the paper to simulate an aged appearance.
