Series; One Hundred Beauties Depicting Modern and Ancient Manners
Singing Girl of the Keio Era (1865-1868), circa 1901 - 1903 - Lovely shin-hanga portrait of a singing girl from the Keio era (1865 - 1868) from this rarely seen series depicting woman from various time periods and classes in Japan. She smiles slightly as she looks down over her shoulder, a roll of tissues in her hand. Her blue gray kimono is bordered with a delicate pattern of autumn grasses and leaves, worn over a red under robe and tied with a tan print obi. The face is beautifully drawn and detailed, the graceful line worm contrasting with the bolder stokes outlining the obi and robe. A beautiful and rare shin-hanga design.
