Pride of Tokyo: Eight Views of Famous Places - In Japan, the scenic "Eight Views of Omi" was a popular subject for woodblock print artists featuring specific landscapes and weather conditions in Omi Province. Some artists adapted the theme of "Eight Views" using different locations such as Kanazawa or Edo. Here, Hiroshige III has selected famous areas in Tokyo to represent the "Eight Views" in an updated version of this traditional subject. These charming designs present scenes from everyday life, from blossoming cherry trees in spring to snowy winter days and rainy nights. The settings are carefully detailed and the designs are vibrantly colored. An interesting series offering a glimpse of life in early Meiji era Tokyo.
