Fighting in a Boat, 1855

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of people fighting on a boat. In the center, a beauty thrusts a short sword at a standing man swinging his weapon over his head. Aft left, a commoner bleeding from a wound to his forehead struggles to climb back onto the vessel after having fallen overboard, an enormous watermelon tucked under his arm. A sailor surfaces in the water nearby. At right, a samurai watches with a horrified expression, his mouth open as he slashes at the beauty with his own sword. He wears a black coat with a beautiful burnished geometric pattern, and clutches a sword wrapped in brocade fabric in his other hand. A fantastic, action-filled design, beautifully colored and detailed.
