Fuchu: Picking Tea Leaves

Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes

Fuchu: Picking Tea Leaves - Handsome scene of a tea plantation worker at Fuchu, assisted by a young boy carrying two baskets of leaves suspended from a yoke over his shoulder. The beauty smiles down at him, a basket of tea leaves tucked under one arm. She wears a striped apron and the sleeves of her blue and white kimono are tied back with a red sash, and a tie-dyed cloth protects her hair. Above, Hiroshige depicts a view of a river crossing near Fuchu, with tiny figures making their way across the water with the assistance of porters. A nicely detailed image from this collaborative Tokaido series. A variant edition with a colored background.
