Selected Masterpieces of Katsushika Hokusai - This beautiful reprint set features selected masterpiece designs by Hokusai from a variety of genres, including kabuki portraits, beauties, nature scenes, and landscapes. It includes his most well-known print and arguably the most famous Japanese woodblock of all time, the outstanding "Great Wave," along with the masterwork "Red Fuji" from his terrific "Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji" series. The other subjects are "Nakamura Riko as the Wife of Fukukiyo," "Ichikawa Kamazo as Hirai Gompachi and Matsumoto Koshiro as Banzui Chobei," "Girl with a Hozuki in Her Mouth," "Weaving," "Benten Shrine at Haneda," "View of the Sumida River from Azuma Bridge," "Dance Parade," "Irises and Carp Fan Print," "Roof-tile Factory at Imado, Asakusa," "Morning Glory and Frog," "Hawk Fan Print," and "Lobster and Pine Sprout." Both the "Dance Parade" and "Lobster and Pine Sprout" are in large format so the print and viewing folders are both folded for storage. Please note: this set is missing one reprint, the landscape "Site of Ushigafuchi, Kudan."

This Boxed Set - Published in 1972 by the venerable Adachi Publisher of Tokyo for the Ukiyo-e Institute of Woodblock Prints (Ukiyo-e Hanga Kenkyu Sho), this boxed set includes 14 woodblock reprints in a traditional cloth-covered case, along with a pamphlet of descriptions and a table of contents in both English and Japanese. Each print is mounted at two points on the top edge to a windowed viewing folder, and has the Adachi Publisher seal in ink on the reverse. These designs are beautifully printed and detailed, with lovely color, fine line work, and soft bokashi shading. The print "Girl with a Hozuki in Her Mouth" features a shimmering silver mica background. A terrific opportunity to acquire some of Hokusai's masterwork ukiyo-e subjects, in an attractive presentation set as issued by the publisher.

Please note: This boxed set is quite heavy. International bidders are welcome; however, there is an additional $50 charge to ship the set internationally.
