Album of Kabuki and Beauty Prints - Interesting old album featuring 101 Edo and Meiji era woodblock print panels of kabuki and beauty subjects, comprising single panels, diptychs, and triptychs. The artists include Yoshitoshi, Chikanobu, Toyokuni III, Kunichika, Hiroshige III, Chikashige, Kuniteru II, and Osaka artist Sadanobu II. The designs by Yoshitoshi include 3 prints from the 1878 series "Beauties and Seven Flowers";  1 print from the 1878 beauty series "Beauties of the Seven Nights"; and an 1866 Genji triptych. Other interesting subjects are a dramatic kabuki cat witch triptych by Chikanobu, a 47 ronin triptych by Kunichika, a Toyokuni III diptych showing the animals of the zodiac wearing clothing and having a meal, and an Osaka triptych by Sadanobu II. A handsome and varied selection of prints by well-known Edo and Meiji era artists, assembled by a collector into an album format.

This Presentation - The album has paper over wood covers, and the prints are mounted to paper, back to back, in accordion fold style. Please note that the album is separated in several places, and both covers are separated. The date Meiji 19 (1886) is written on the back cover in ink.

Condition - Prints with good color and detail as shown. One panel has a large loss at corner. Creasing, soiling, slight toning. Album folds are sometimes into print subject. Wooden covers warped. Please see photos for details.
