Comments - Fantastic kabuki triptych from the play popularly known as "The Yaguchi Ferry," which tells the story of the treacherous ferryman Tombei. In this dramatic scene, his mortally wounded daughter Ofune has dragged herself to the drum tower, to give a signal that the outlaw Yoshimune has been captured, when in fact she has let him escape. Her father Tombei comes after her with his sword, trying to prevent her from beating the drum so that he can collect the reward money for fugitive. She backs away from him in fright, the drum hanging over her head. At left, Tombei's assistant, Rokuzo, watches aghast, unsure what to do. The actors include Ichikawa Sadanji as Rokuzo and Ichikawa Danjuro as Tombei. A great design with large, expressive figures. Includes a dusting of mica across the top of the night sky.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight thinning at edge, a couple small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
