Yamato Warriors: Chiba Saburohei Mitsutada and Yato Yomoshichi Norikane, 1886 - Terrific double portrait from Kyosai's series depicting the famous 47 ronin. Here the young ronin Yato Yomoshichi Norikane sits on the ground, gripping his spear and scowling as he looks over his shoulder. Behind him, Chiba Saburohei Mitsutada stands at the ready with spear in hand, sneering as he looks down intently, his eyes bulging. Both warriors wear black robes bordered with the traditional ronin dogtooth pattern over their armor. Wonderful detail in the expressive faces, clothing, and weapons, with lively color and fine bokashi shading in the background. A terrific choice for a samurai enthusiast.
