Badger Transformed into a Priest, Calligraphy, and View of Mt. Fuji Harimaze Print

Harimaze Prints - Harimaze are woodblock prints featuring several images on one page, designed to be cut apart and pasted into albums or mounted to screens. They sometimes include verses or poems, and often include illustrations by several artists. An interesting format with a nice variety of designs in a single print. The circular inset features a magic badger from the tale of the "Lucky Teakettle of Morin Temple." A woodcutter saved a badger's life, so the animal turned itself into a teakettle as thanks. The woodcutter gave the teakettle to a priest of Morin Temple. When the priest put the kettle over a fire, it transformed back into a badger and ran all around the temple. The badger also could magically transform into priest, as he his shown here, wearing a priest's robes.

Artist - Fusatane (active 1854 - 1888)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 10"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Some small stains. Slight toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
