Beauties Dressed as Street Knights, 1858

Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait of Ichikawa Dannosuke V as Maboroshi no Ocho and Nakamura Tsuruzo I as Mikazuki Osen. The two women are shown as otokodate or street knights, a traditionally male role. Each carries a single sword, and a shakuhachi flute is visible above the seated woman's back. She grimaces up at the young beauty, who smiles happily as she adjusts the towel over her shoulder. Nicely detailed with bokashi shading in the kimono and background, and embossing on the white kimono collars.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight toning, a few light creases at edges, stain. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
